Police Capt. Anthony Romano, a lifetime Hudson County resident, won the election with the help of all his local supporters. Romano went to school in Jersey City for ten years -- St. Peter's Prep, St. Peter's College and New Jersey City University. These connections coupled with support of the Hudson County Democratic Party helped secure Romano's seat as 5th District Freeholder.

The Hudson County Board of Freeholders newest member was sworn in at 9 a.m. today in the Freeholders' Chambers located at 567 Pavonia Ave., Jersey City. This was done to allow Romano to vote on a temporary county budget. A second swearing in will take place at the county's scheduled reorganization meeting on Tuesday at 6pm.

Romano is replacing Freeholder Maurice Fitzgibbons, who has held the position for the past 15 years.

Next week, the 9 member board must elect a chairman.

Reportedly, Current chairman Jeff Dublin and Bayonne Freeholder Doreen DiDomenico are in a dead heat and have locked up 4 votes a piece. This leaves Romano with the deciding vote.
