Does that mean you can take a train to see the Giants, Concerts and more? Yes it does. Rail service to major Giants Stadium events begins July 26NEWARK, NJ — NJ TRANSIT Executive Director Richard Sarles today announced the official start date for rail service to the Meadowlands Sports Complex, which will provide a new, convenient travel option for customers via Hoboken Terminal or Frank R. Lautenberg Station at Secaucus Junction.Rail service to major events at Giants Stadium will launch Sunday, July 26, for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup Final championship soccer match. “The startup of rail service to the Meadowlands Sports Complex is great news for New Jersey residents because it will be easier than ever to avoid roadway congestion and take our convenient public transportation system to world-class sporting and entertainment events,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine. “With connections to 10 of NJ TRANSIT’s 12 rail lines, train service to Giants Stadium will offer fans from across the state a way to avoid the hassles of traffic and parking when attending large events,” said Transportation Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chairman Stephen Dilts. “The new Meadowlands rail link will deliver customers to the doorstep of the stadium, a convenient 23 minutes from Hoboken,” Sarles said. “With frequent event service every 10 to 20 minutes between the stadium, Hoboken Terminal and Lautenberg Station, people can also make connections to and from virtually every community we serve in New Jersey and New York.”“A bright new era begins for the Meadowlands Sports Complex with the launch of rail service bringing mass transit accessibility to millions of our guests from the tri-state region,” said Dennis Robinson, President and Chief Executive Officer of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. “In addition, this new rail service opens up the entire northeast corridor to the Sports Complex, significantly broadening our market. With over $3.5 billion in new private investment that will bring new attractions to the world's most famous sports, entertainment and racing venue, the timing could not be more perfect.” Trains to the Meadowlands Sports Complex will operate for select stadium events of 50,000 fans or more, including all Giants and Jets pre-season and regular season home games, major concerts at Giants Stadium, and Gold Cup soccer. Trains will operate between Hoboken Terminal, Secaucus Junction and Meadowlands Sports Complex stations approximately every 10 to 20 minutes before and after events.
