Ellen J. Cawthorne
Ellen Cawthorne has had a love affair with flowers as long as she can remember. While pursuing her studies in Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, she took a particular interest in botanical life. With a career in the commercial end of art and design for many years, she expanded her artistic interests with a culinary career, inclusive of serving as a cake artist and designer of sugar flowers. Her passion for flowers has also been expressed through gardening and landscape design.
Through her journey of self-expression, Ellen has returned to fine art with her oil paintings. To create her photorealist style flower portraits, Ellen photographs her subjects in an effort to capture the flowers at that very moment in time, then she often enlarges and crops her photographs to find the subjects for her paintings. Her greatest pleasure in the process is seeing her paintings take life.
